Mouse Balls - Oops!

This is rather amusing... at least to me!

About a year ago, we got new computers at work. They're very nice, and much better than our previous sytems. However, they included optical mice.

Now I've never been a mouse fan. I'm all about keyboard shortcuts - WindowsKey R is my bestest friend, once I know the .exe filename. (Wow that sounded geeky!) ;) However, our newest system at work is point and click, so it requires the use of my mouse. Enter, the optical mouse.

This mouse and I have hated each other from day 1. It jumps all over the place. I suppose it has something to do with the fact that I pick up my mouse frequently. I'm not sure why, maybe it's just a habit - but that's a bad habit to have with an optical mouse, the pointer doesn't know where to go! The pointer would jump, and close my windows, while I was in the middle of something - it is absolutely maddening!

Finally I got frustrated when it closed a window, and sent my supervisor an email. I was fed up!

Here's my email:

Okay I know that optical mice are the wave of the future, and supposed to be SO much better because no one wants to worry about mouse balls. But this thing is driving me batty. If I lift the mouse even just a teeny bit to move it, it moves the pointer all over the place, and then I'm clicking somewhere because I think I'm in a spot, but I'm not and it closes my windows. It's closed Apollo several times - VERY frustrating! Is there an old regular mouse lying around somewhere that I can switch out with? Or maybe my mouse is just overly sensitive - he needs therapy or something! ;)

She forwarded it to IT, and our IT guy came to look at my mouse. He determined it's user error (he's a good guy, we joke around) and straightened the cord, and was done. That was yesterday.

Today, same issues. I know there's nothing they can do because I'm the one lifting the mouse, but I just want an old school mouse! Today I saw our IT guy, and told him it's still an issue, and he was teasing me about not being able to use my mouse. I asked him "Can't I just get a mouse with balls?"

Hindsight is always 20/20. Stupid, stupid thing to say - I know. I will never hear the end of it from him, ever. It's something we can laugh about, but how embarassing! I tried to convince him that's not what I meant, he was laughing too hard to help me after that!

I am forever putting my foot in my mouth, and saying silly things like that! I'm sure my friends have so many quotes they could use if they wanted to embarass me - somehow things like that just fall out of my mouth!

Happy Wednesday!! :)
